With unpredictable winter weather, it can be hard to know whether you can go outside much. In fact, you may find yourself wanting to stay home more than you did during other parts of the year to avoid the cold. At first glance, this issue may not seem to matter too much because you have back pain anyway—you can simply rest! However, you can’t remain immobile if you hope to make a full recovery. Even while you’re indoors, here are some things you can do to address your back pain.
Stretching
Whether you’re injured or not, stretching needs to be part of your active schedule. Stretches enable your body to move more comfortably and prevent further pain. Fortunately, it typically takes just a few minutes, and it’s a good idea to both start and end your activity with stretching.
Full-Body Exercises
You don’t need a fancy gym membership or extensive workout equipment to work out your body. Simple exercises can work several muscle groups simultaneously without costing anything extra. These movements can strengthen various part of your body, helping your body recover and send important resources to the injury to heal.
Cycling or Walking on a Treadmill
Do you have a stationary bike or treadmill? You can easily get your cardio and total body workout done without leaving your house!
Yoga or Meditation
Yoga is a great exercise option for recovering from an injury because it focuses on balance and strength. It is also extremely calming! Meditation can also help your mental health. After all, remaining indoors can be challenging for many people who love to go out. Some develop seasonal affective disorder, where the weather has a negative impact on a person’s mental well-being.
Walking around Your House
Regardless of the size of your home, you can still take a walk every day to stay active. As you go from room to room, take note of potential chores you can get done while you’re at home. Try to avoid tasks that could involve more pain or reinjury, but these chores can also help you rehabilitate.
Visit Your Chiropractor
As one of the brief exceptions when you leave the house, visiting your chiropractor can definitely guide your body on the right path in its healing. Your chiropractor can guide your spine and other joints into their proper alignment, which takes pressure off nerves and alleviates your pain. They can also show you how to perform corrective exercises and stretches safely, making your at-home care even more effective.
If you find yourself stuck at home more than usual this winter, take advantage of this time to feel better, bounce back from your back or neck injury, and get ready to enjoy being outside again!
