When you have more severe or frequent neck pain, arguably, the best course of action is working with a chiropractor, who can correct your alignment and take pressure off your neck and back nerves. However, if you don’t also work on healthy habits daily, your neck will continue to bother you even after your chiropractor visits. On top of neck paint treatment in Richardson, here are some of the things you should do in your normal lifestyle to keep your neck pain to a minimum.

Healthy Posture

These days, many jobs require sitting and working at a computer for long periods of time; however, if you remain in the same position hour after hour, you might find yourself with an achy, stiff neck at the end of each day. Every hour or two, reset your posture and/or take a quick walk around, which will remind your body how it wants to be situated to sit or stand comfortably. Make sure your head isn’t too far forward, so if you need to have your eye prescription updated to see more clearly, do it!

Good Sleep Position

When you spend about 6 to 8 hours sleeping out of 24, it’s important to set your body up for a comfortable night’s rest. Too many pillows can elevate your head at an awkward angle for your neck, leading to pain during the day. It may take some experimenting to find the perfect placement and number of pillows, but the reward of better sleep and less neck pain are worth the time and effort you put into it.

Appropriate Exercise and Technique

Whether you’re a serious weightlifter or athlete or simply going to the gym to get back in shape after many years of not working out consistently, when you exercise, you must use the proper technique and posture. Lift using your knees and legs, not your back. Make sure you’re breathing steadily, staying hydrated, and not lifting too much weight to avoid strain, injury, and excessive soreness or tightness.

Limited Time with Technology

With social media, online work, and more, it can be challenging to close your laptop, put the phone or tablet down, and take frequent breaks, but too much time on these devices asks for more neck pain. “Text neck” or the pain you feel after looking down at your phone has become all too common and can easily be addressed by doing other activities.

In the end, even if you take these actions in your lifestyle, you may still need to see your chiropractor on a regular basis, but your chances of experiencing neck pain can be reduced substantially, helping you get the most out of life every day!
