When you hurt your back, your body needs to recover. Although you shouldn’t spend all day resting, when paired with chiropractic treatment, a little bit can allow your body to heal and restore function. However, some people do not handle downtime well at all. When you’re used to being busy all the time, resting can be uncomfortable or stressful. If you have a long to-do list, “doing nothing” can even drive you crazy! What valuable things can you do while you rest from back pain? Plenty!
Get Inspired
Being stuck on the couch or bed resting with back pain can quickly become depressing. Instead of doing what you want or need to accomplish, you may have to learn how to use your limited active time more wisely. Or perhaps you simply want to learn something new, and resting gives you the opportunity to spend time doing it! While you’re down, watch TED talks, listen to podcasts, or read to learn about new skills, time management, or any other subject.
Be Productive
You may not appear to be doing anything, but you can still check things off your to-do list as you rest your back. Nowadays, you can order groceries, make lists, contact people, and schedule appointments without getting up. Use the time you have resting to accomplish necessary tasks so that you’re not excessively stressed when you get back up on your feet.
Get Creative
If you know how to knit, crochet, weave, or just color, resting is the perfect time to enjoy your hobbies. Not only can creative outlets help you pass the time, but they can also improve your mood and connect you with others. Creativity doesn’t have to involve making a mess. In fact, you can do a lot of creative things on your phone, computer, or even a simple notebook. Writing, photoshopping, and design can enhance your skills and perhaps earn you some side-hustle money!
Practice Self Care
Resting allows you to slow down and think about taking care of yourself. While you give your back a break, take some time to listen to relaxing music, do your nails, wear a face mask, or whatever helps you feel good. No one said you can’t enjoy some at-home spa time!
Catch Up on Reading or Binge Watching
When you need to take it easy, reading and watching TV or movies are some of the most popular activities. Find a good book you’ve been meaning to pick up, or get around to seeing the show your friends keep talking about.
Resting doesn’t have to mean wasting time. When you do any of these activities, your rest time can help you feel better, not just physically but mentally as well. Giving yourself the chance to recover can help you keep up with everything you want and need to do.
